Time to Change Semiconductor Design Environment

Identifying the Current Status and Future Prospects of the Semiconductor "Design" Industry

Thursday, December 12 | 2:30 pm - 4:10 pm

Reception B, Conference Tower 1F)

Due to supply chain procurement risks and to expand their own AI solution business, IT vendors in the U.S. and China are designing their own semiconductors and building a robust business model. We will share "The Importance of Semiconductor Design" with executives, leaders, and young engineers.

University Professor

AI creates demand for semiconductors, but at the same time it also brings about an energy crisis. Improving the energy efficiency of AI semiconductors is an urgent issue. Implementing dedicated chips in 3D is an effective method. However, the development costs of dedicated chips are rising sharply. Therefore, it is also important to use AI to improve development efficiency. AI evolves chips, and chips evolve AI. An evolutionary battle, or co-evolution, begins.

15:30 - 16:00
From the viewpoint of a designer of large-scale AI processors
Junichiro Makino
Junichiro Makino
Preferred Networks
VP, CTO of Computer Architecture

I'll overview the status of the LSI design environment from the viewpoint of a developer of large-scale AI processors. The LSI design period has become very long due to the longer machine time for physical design and verification. Massively parallelization and the use of AI will greatly improve this situation.
