The latest information on PFAS regulations, which are being strengthened especially in Europe and the U.S., and efforts across the entire semiconductor manufacturing supply chain for PFAS management will be presented. The seminar will also provide information on various regulations that the industry should pay attention to, such as the EU packaging regulations aimed at reducing waste and using sustainable packaging materials, and the regulatory trends regarding flame retardants in Europe and the U.S., along with their background information.

SEMI International EHS Compliance Regulatory Committee (ICRC) activities and status.
PFAS are widely used in the electrical and electronics and semiconductor fields. However, due to concerns about the effects of some PFAS on the environment and human health, discussions are underway in various countries to implement regulations covering all PFAS, and its interest is growing. We will explain the trend regarding the proposed restriction of PFAS in the EU REACH Regulation.
This presentation will provide an overview of the U.S. PFAS reporting rules that will come into effect in November 2024 under TSCA 8(a)(7). Additionally, it will explain about the status of PFAS regulations at the state level, focusing on Maine and Minnesota.
概要:TBA
A number of actions have been identified to reduce adverse human health and environmental impacts associated with chemicals, materials and products introduced in the EU market. Recent EU environmental legislation such as Ecodesign Regulation for Sustainable Products (ESPR), successor to Energy-related Products (ErP) Directive as a contribution to the circular economy, Green Claims Directive, Environmental Crime Directive and Repair Regulation will be outlined with chemical substances.
In the EU, the current directive on packaging materials and packaging waste will soon be officially converted into a regulation, so would like to provide an overview of this regulation as well as explain regulations in some other regions.
Semiconductor manufacturing equipment and related machinery are composed of a large number of components of different compositions. Many of these components are made of materials with flame retardant properties to minimize the risk of fire hazards. In most cases these materials depend largely on flame retardant additives to attain the desired level of flame retardant properties. In EU and USA a wide range of flame retardant additives are currently under assessment for future regulatory restrictions and this can have a significant impact on semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
European Parliament elections were held in June 2024 for the first time in five years. In the light of the results, the future direction of European environmental legislation will be explained, as well as trends in chemicals regulation and circular economy policy.
