The semiconductor industry has significant challenges to overcome to support sustainable industry growth, supporting growing demand for chips and providing increasing computational power, while minimizing environmental footprint. In this session Intel will share their vision for sustainable semiconductor manufacturing. Including a discussion of the critical actions the industry must take such as reducing carbon footprint and minimizing PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) usage. These actions will be critical as the industry seeks to demonstrate responsible environmental stewardship, while facing challenges with increased energy consumption to meet growing computational demands and increasing regulatory and supply line vulnerability concerns.

Deputy Director, Facility
TSMC

In the rapidly evolving world of technology, the semiconductor industry stands at the forefront of innovation, driving advancements in everything from consumer electronics to artificial intelligence. However, this progress comes with significant environmental challenges. Green manufacturing has emerged as a crucial strategy for mitigating the ecological footprint of semiconductor production. This presentation will explore the concept of green manufacturing within the semiconductor industry, with a particular focus on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) as a case study. TSMC, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing, has taken notable strides toward sustainability by integrating environmentally responsible practices into its operations. Through the introduction of TSMC’s green initiatives, including energy-efficient processes, carbon reduction, waste reduction, and water conservation, this presentation will highlight the company's commitment and ways for reducing its environmental impact while maintaining its competitive edge in the market. TSMC approached to adopting innovative technologies that minimize resource consumption and enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, the presentation will address the broader implications of TSMC’s practices for the semiconductor industry as a whole, offering insights into how other companies can adopt similar strategies to foster a more sustainable future. By showcasing TSMC’s achievements and ongoing efforts, this speech aims to underscore the importance of green manufacturing in the semiconductor sector and inspire further innovations that align technological advancement with environmental stewardship.
