200mm continues to place emphasis on operational efficiencies and process technology solutions that allow a customer to differentiate their products in the market. With low cost access via GlobalShuttle, our manufacturing facilities support 28nm and larger process geometries. In addition to fables companies, IDMs have discovered that the operation excellence offered by the 200mm Fabs provide a strong value proposition in their corporate directions to diversify their manufacturing base and transform into a fab-lite corporation. GLOBALFOUNDRIES is committed to be a long term supplier by investing in capacity to address the growing demands of IDMs who are transitioning to fab-lite or fables business models. GLOBALFOUNDRIES is expanding its operations in Fab 1in Dresden and Fab 7 in Singapore and is progressing towards getting Fab 8 ready in Saratoga County, New York to support 300mm and beyond.

近年半導体産業の裾野は、微細化一辺倒でなくパワー半導体やMEMSに代表されるようにそれ程微細化が必要でないデバイスも増えてきている。それらのデバイスを製造するFABを構築するに当りオーバースペックな微細化対応で高価な新品装置は必要なく安価な中古装置を活用することが経営戦略上重要である。しかし、装置の選定を誤ると低歩留りや低生産性な工場となりかえって、投資効率が悪くなる。その様な観点から上手く中古装置を活用する戦略について述べたい。
