SEMI Japan respects the privacy of individuals and cares about continuous improvement on the handling of personal information in order to reassure the customers and the people concerned.
The Act on the Protection of Personal Information (hereinafter referred to as “Personal Information Protection Law”) provides that, when having acquired personal information, a business operator handling personal information shall publicly announce the items concerning the Purpose of Utilization or put those matters in a (readily) accessible condition for the person. We hereby release those matters defined by the Personal Information Protection Law for public announcement as indicated below.
SEMI Japan’s policy on the handling of personal information to be provided is as follows.
What is Personal Information?
The term "personal information" means "information about a living individual which can identify the specific individual by name, date of birth or other description contained in such information (including such information as will allow easy reference to other information and will thereby enable the identification of the specific individual)." (Personal Information Protection Law Article 2, Clause 1).
Purpose of Utilization of Personal Information
Personal information provided to SEMI Japan will be used for our marketing activities, projects such as exhibitions / seminars / standards, Public Relations / IR (Investor Relations) activities, and for providing the information on these events. In addition, such personal information will be used jointly by SEMI group organizations around the world.
Disclosure of Personal Information to Any Third Party
We will not provide personal information to a third party except in cases falling under any of the following items;
- Cases in which the consent of the person is obtained.
- Cases in which personal information is disclosed or provided in the condition that a person cannot be identified as in statistical data.
- Cases in which the handling of personal information is based on laws and regulations.
- Cases in which the handling of personal information is necessary for the protection of the life, body, or property of an individual and in which it is difficult to obtain the consent of the person.
- Cases in which the handling of personal information is specially necessary for improving public health or promoting the sound growth of children and in which it is difficult to obtain the consent of the person.
- Cases in which the handling of personal information is necessary for cooperating with a state organ or a local government in executing the affairs prescribed by laws and regulations and in which it is difficult to obtain the consent of the person.
In this regard, however, please accept in advance that, at the exhibitions hosted or co-hosted by us or at the exhibitions held in the same time and place in collaboration with those exhibitions, the personal information to be provided during application will be disclosed to the exhibitor if the bar code information is read by the machine installed at each exhibitor’s site.
Items Concerning Joint Use
As an exception to the case of providing personal information to a third party, the Personal Information Protection Law, Article 23, Clause 4, Item 3 defines that, the individual or business operator receiving personal data shall not be deemed as a third party and may provide such personal data to the joint user without prior consent of the person in cases in which such personal data is used jointly between specific individuals or entities and in which this fact and the items of the personal data used jointly are put in a readily accessible condition for the person.
In this regard, we may use the personal data provided to us jointly in accordance with the following items.

Name, position, post, address, telephone number, sex, age, e-mail address.
Scope of Joint Users
SEMI headquarters and SEMI group organizations around the world.

Purpose of Use
Marketing activities, projects such as exhibitions / seminars / standards, Public Relations / IR (Investor Relations) activities, and for providing the information on these events, which are handled by each organization of SEMI group.

We have been taking appropriate security measures including, but not limited to, firewall installation, data encryption, and company-specific data access authority management in order to prevent loss, falsification, and divulgation of the personal information under our control.

The provided information will be adequately corrected, altered, or deleted upon request by the information provider.
Abidance by Laws/Regulations and Guidelines
We will abide by related laws and regulations on the collection and utilization of the customers’ personal information, review the approaches to each item of the above-mentioned items accordingly, and make every effort for the improvement thereof.
